Adam: Jim, I ‘d like to start out this audio with a Word from the Psalms:
“The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” Psalm 18:2
My brother, how many times have we struggled with the feelings and thoughts that maybe we are left all alone here on this earth? I mean if God is alive why can’t I see Him running around to help His people? What exactly is this stuff about God being David’s ‘deliverer’ anyway? I don’t ‘see’ Him doing much of anything?
Oddly enough,I woke up the other morning with this strong impression [which happens every once in a while]that God was a God of Deliverance and though He is not seen by the eyes of human flesh, I received this strong but familiar impression that this is exactly what He is in the business of, DELIVERANCE.
Let me read another passage so you can see where I am going with this okay?
“Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD And whose trust is the LORD.-Jeremiah 17:7
See that sense of deliverance in the passage? The psalmist is expressing His faith in the LORD because the LORD will deliver Him. Oh but that was King David we say, or we say yeah but, he never received any help its just a spiritual “yearning” of Davids bla bla..
Hmmm? Really? What if we have totally missed the fact that God is passionately in the business of deliverance in just about EVERYTHING to do with our lives while on earth? I mean what exactly do we think the word “salvation” even means!?? lol
Jim do you have some thoughts to add?
Jim: From so much that I have seen, many Christians either dismiss God’s deliverance altogether or else they reserve it for special or extreme situations. My own early experiences caused me much uncertainty because I was constantly looking for God to provide many things in relation to my ministry. And then on top of that, I had gotten married and had 3 children entering the picture. There was always something we needed God to do for us. And many times, it seemed as if God really wasn’t there for me as I struggled to take care of my family and those I was ministering to. And even though I often wondered at the lack of what I expected God to be doing in my life, I somehow made it through.
Adam: Thanks Jim. Hey are up for reading another passage with me?
Jim:
Psalm 34:8
Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.
Adam: Jim what I am seeing is that over and over we have nothing but example after example of this Deliverer and His people. It’s the very essence of what it MEANS to be “saved” from something.[deliverance]
Jim: I think too many Christians have gotten quite dull as to what salvation really is. I mean, you can’t even say the word “saved” without some believers automatically shifting into evangelism mode — where discussions of heaven and hell are expected to follow. Like I’ve said before, I’m quite familiar with this perception because it’s exactly how I used to react. It’s like, “Salvation! I’m an expert in that.
I’m thinking that’s why some Christians might avoid the topic. But just like you are saying, the words saved and salvation mean deliverance.
Adam: Deuteronomy 31:6
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
Hey, while we might remember the Hebrews quote much better, this was the original quote taken from the Book of Deuteronomy. The fact is that there is no absence of fear WITHOUT a Deliverer! Peace [only] comes to those WITH a Deliverer and One who is wiser than any man or woman ever to be born to this world. God delivers and Paul said it best when He expressed the pain and suffering in this world to the Lord in prayer and Jesus said:
[But he said to me,] “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” 2 Corinthians 12:9
This is Christ’s deliverance coming to Him! He was called right THERE to “ Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.”
Jim: Galatians…were tempted not to wait on Him…..thrown off….but we by faith are waiting….
Adam: So many examples of how we get confused and then caught up in trying to deliver ourselves instead of allowing Him to be what HE IS![Deliverer] Always trying to “help Him” or “cooperate” while nervously attempting to curb this, and accentuate that and change this and feel guilty for that…being a busy ‘Martha ‘over the scope of our performance in this life and unto God never at peace before Him and man. Always “restless”. It’s an everyday word but, thats what it is …its an uneasiness that draws out performances from our flesh for God and men!
The deliverance is not always as we expect for He knows what it takes to deliver us..and He does that thing for us. Angry people….condemners…predicaments….He delivers in one way or the other….don’t box Him in..see what He does.,…
Ahh but then there was Mary…..
BREAK———-
Jim:
Now as they were traveling along, He entered a village; and a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home. She had a sister called Mary, who was seated at the Lord’s feet, listening to His word. But Martha was distracted with all her preparations; and she came up to Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to do all the serving alone? Then tell her to help me.” But the Lord answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things; but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:38-42 NASB
Adam: Open dialogue
I am seeing Him show Himself in me as Deliverer too. Meaning the “love one another” aspect of our nature is all about delivering those around us. James calls it bearing one another’s burdens”….WE are in the biz of rescuing as we are carried along by the Spirit.
