If We Hold Fast Our Confidence, Part 3

What if Hebrews was not written to motivate apathetic Christians so as to get them off their blessed assurance and do something about it? What if instead it was written to those who had been called into the amazing grace of God, those who had in fact given of themselves because of the power of the new covenant, those who later found themselves paralyzed in the midst of an insanity of religious activity and ritual stirred up by fear and uncertainty? What if it was written to those whose faith was being undermined by the very community that called itself by the name of Christ? In other words, what if Hebrews had been written and consequently viewed as a declaration of certainty in the midst of uncertainty? You see, we’ve been taught to read Hebrews as if it was meant to add some kind of deeper dimension to our Christian life and faith — and because of this, those declarations of certainty have taken on different meanings. The truth of the matter is that Hebrews was written to challenge and expose the legalistic perversion of the new covenant that pretended to honor Jesus Christ and his sacrifice for sin while at the same time it denied the very reality of everything he was and did.

“The truth of the matter is that Hebrews was written to challenge and expose the legalistic perversion of the new covenant that pretended to honor Jesus Christ and his sacrifice for sin while at the same time it denied the very reality of everything he was and did.” <~theshovel i LOVE that description! especially this part: “…the legalistic PERVERSION of the New Covenant that PRETENDED to honor … while at the same time denied the very Reality of everything He was and did.”  !!!  :)  :)  :) that perversion has certainly come a lonnnnnnnng way down through the centuries, hasn’t it? wow! it has been so pervasive that the truth and good news of the New Covenant of Jesus Christ is missed and dismissed completely. that could be considered the sad news concerning the good news, except that … … the good news is that the Light of GOD in Christ Jesus shines through in the midst of all the perverted darkness and despite it. His Light simply can not and will not be ‘put out’ by all the endless legalistic perversions from darkness and legalistic perversions aside, regardless of appearance, circumstance and situation, the Light of GOD will shine where, when, how and through whom He so desires. He simply will not be controlled by all the delusion and illusion of darkness. as it is so fond of being mentioned around here at the Shovel, “things are not always as they ‘appear’.”  :) nor as they seem or feel. thank God for that! that is also good news!  :) cheers to Him from Whom His Light shines in darkness in and through all who are in Him. those who have and are in the Light have no darkness at all ever, regardless of all the darkness that may surround them. they ARE the light in the midst, and the darkness HATES the Light. that is the truth of the matter. the Light shines because that is the very nature of Light.  :) darkness is blinding, but for those who are in His Light, there is true sight to see what the darkness can never see by its very nature. in Him … in His Light … we are truly confident! thank you for all the encouragement, despite my wabbit twails. ;)

I really liked this post Sherri. I was speaking last night a bit about this : “”things are not always as they ‘appear’.” :) nor as they seem or feel. thank God for that! that is also good news! :) I was just saying that we are not held captive by the many empty, vein thoughts, impressions and philosophy of the natural mind. We DON’T have to live our lives by IT. For it would take us down many destructive roads. We know better.

Good stuff guys I really enjoyed it. Thanks

David, Great to hear from you. We enjoy proclaiming these things and even the asking of the questions themselves. For they are all in the Fathers great big hands. Great to hear back. Adam

Hey Adam As far as asking questions I for one could not think of any questions that in one way or another have not been answered in all the information that is already on this site.

Just recently, I’ve been thinking, it’s a matter of the heart. You seem to say the same thing. That makes such good sense to someone who has TRIED so hard, I just can’t TRY anymore!! I’m not sure how to go about that because I can’t try! (lol) Thanks!

Hello my friend,
You may be surprised to discover what can happen when you stop trying and simply live. For it is HIS life that now defines us. :)
