A Literal Second Coming?
Submitted by theshovelIs there going to be a literal, physical second coming, do you think?
What if this second coming is multifaceted? In other words, Jesus Christ has already returned as he promised his disciples he would:
If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also. John 14:3
Of course, this verse is almost always assumed to be talking about a future coming instead of the promise he fulfilled when he came back to them via the Spirit of God. But there is still the ongoing hope of the deliverance out of the physical realm when we leave these bodies behind.
Instead of us having to settle for a limited view of his return what if we actually get to experience his return in more than one expression? What if, as John also wrote in 1 John 3 that we do in fact have the fulness of Christ right now but still look forward to the time where we don’t know what it is we will be?
Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is. 1 John 3:2
And in the way John described that we will be like him because we will see him as he is, he didn’t speak of that experience apart from the reality that we are NOW in him and are as he is in the world. I see an unfolding of his unseen return to us while we are in the seen realm as well as our coming to him in the unseen realm so that we will see him as he is in that which was unseen. We even see him now through the eyes of our hearts in the unseen. For us, the yet to come does not in any way diminish that which is now. How could it be so for the I AM?
Will he also show himself in a physical return in the yet future (according to our calendars) in such ways as described in other verses? Perhaps. But then again, might he not be seen by all in such a way as to give those descriptions an even fuller meaning? Perhaps. :)
