Raised with Christ

Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory. Colossians 3:1-4, NASB

There are two ways to consider Christ: according to that which is on the earth or according to that which is above. That's pretty simple, isn't it? The mind of religion, despite all its spiritual overtones, stands firm with its feet upon the earth. That fleshly, religious mind will argue doctrine and quote Bible verses (even about the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ), but when faced with the actual truth of Christ, it will balk. And isn't it obvious as to why? After all, the good news of Christ is found outside the framework of our arguments. It is found where Christ is: above. The same man who wrote the above statements, also claimed to have known what it was to recognize Christ according to the flesh ... but no longer. Those who want an earth-bound Jesus, let them have him. Don't feel threatened by their high-minded words when they call your view of life in Christ "ethereal" or "esoteric". That's just another way to describe the vast chasm between life and death. After all, you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. I mean, that's out there, isn't it? But if you are in Christ, that is the essence of your life. Jim :)

Excellent reminder, Jim. Thanks.
Tim

Jim this is an excellent word! Natural wisdom does not except the things of God. Same thing here. Jesus Christ is always viewed according to the flesh in some way in the world at large but, for those called to Him, we have been joined to Him even though we often struggle with that old wisdom and it’s deafness.

"Those who want an earth-bound Jesus, let them have him:" So good and such an affirming encouragement--it is where I"„¢ve been for the past couple of years. No need to argue or try to convince with truth. The Lord said to the Disciples: "I have yet many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now." At first I tried to convince others of these liberating truths out of my desire to show myself right, later it was because I wanted to "help," now I realize that I don't have to "try" to tell it at all for it is not mine to tell. My life is the essence of it and that is hid with Christ. So, I will just speak Christ", after all it is "not I but Christ" Gal 2:20. What a grand short journey this road down here is. Love the beard man! But I love you more :) Keep surfin' on life my Brother! John

i concur and third that, john! :) "Those who want an earth-bound Jesus, let them have him". so very encouraging! this very much supports the encouragement that, concerning the child of God, things just simply are not always as they appear in this temporary earthly journey. i love this: "...your life is hidden with Christ in God." :) i also love this: "When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory." :) i do seem to think that occasionally we experience temporary glimpses of that Reality when we each see Christ as our Life and Reality together, whether we are alone or when we enjoy those special and precious times when we are together, as rare as those times may indeed be. ("sorry, that was a mouthful, wasn't it, for a current lack of ability to word or express it more succinctly", she says a little embarrassingly). i hope you get what i mean, despite any lack of better wording. do you think that we are only 'alone' in the physical sense? for we are part of a whole ~ a New Creation bound together in the Life and Freedom that is generously supplied and sustained in, by, from, and out of Christ Himself. anyway ... loved this! thank you! :)
