But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you all know. I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it, and because no lie is of the truth. ... And as for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him. 1 John 2:20-21&27

Somewhere along the line, somebody convinced you that the anointing you received was mostly ineffective. Oh sure, some have emphasized it more than others, but the real impact of this miraculous work of God has been purposely downplayed and even denied by those who don't want to jeopardize their positions, their authority or their power over you. They have worked long and hard to keep you dependent upon them and their elevated status of teacher.

Oh, I'm not suggesting that you can become a Bible scholar without some help from those who know more than you, but therein lies the confusion. For many of you actually imagine that the Spirit's imparting of knowledge surely leads to an advanced understanding of the Bible. And because of this speculation many have long assumed that those who know more about the Bible must know more about God and are therefore better equipped to teach you the knowledge of God.

You were not anointed with oil, you were anointed with the essence of God. Are you not aware that God's spirit has embedded his knowledge into you? Men can teach facts and figures, they can teach you the Bible and doctrines, but they cannot teach you what you already know. Don't let the illusion of knowledge convince you that his knowledge does not fully live in you through Christ.

Brother Jim. The Holy Spirit is The One who can convince you about truth because He is truth. In Christ because of Him. Leo

Indeed, he is, my friend, Leo! :)

Jim

Leo, WELL said. Adam

It’s amazing that the knowledge of God has already been enbedded in me. I have thought (on my own or been taught) that this increased over time as I grew in my knowledge of the Scriptures and applied them to my life (practice). But this is radical! You mean I already have what I need to know? How do I become more aware of this?

Hello, my friend, Tim :)

How do you become more aware? I suppose just as you have already been increasing in this insight. For as we minister to one another and witness of this common life we continue to find our confidence fading from all but Christ. :)

Jim

Freedom upon freedom! Hallelujah.

Yes, my friend, freedom! Thank you for the joy expressed in so few words. :)

Jim

Indeed! Indeed!

“For many of you actually imagine that the Spirit’s imparting of knowledge surely leads to an advanced understanding of the Bible. And because of this speculation many have long assumed that those who know more about the Bible must know more about God and are therefore better equipped to teach you the knowledge of God.”-Jim Dear Jim, I every so often see the reality that the ‘teacher’ who knows Bible facts as being just fleshly and empty. At the same time[and more importantly] I see those[like me] who are confused as to what was originally said in the Bible in AGREEMENT with the reality behind what was spoken in it- once those scriptures are conveyed as they were originally written. In this I see your wonderful testimony as true. For in[my] the heart, though the mind is confused, lies the living breathing word of God. Though the confusion and hurt is not always taken away by the hearing or the reading of the Bible in context, the reality of God still remains..and THAT is truly a miraculous thing when you think about it. Again I am not saying that it is not painful to only be in the grips of fleshly reasoning, just that there is definatley a testimony despite what often seems to not be present viewing from the natural mind.

Jim, The annointing of God, the priesthood of the believer, I love it! We cannot be disenfranchised by those who would point out our lack of their knowledge. Bill, the HarryTick

Thank you for your graceFUL words!….Keep them coming! Heather

Well then, Batter up!! :)

Good to see you, Phil

Jim

Yo Phil! Adam

many have long assumed that those who know more about the Bible must know more about God and are therefore better equipped to teach you the knowledge of God. There is so much we don’t understand and we desperately want to believe that someone out there understands it all better than we do. If it all makes perfect sense in someone’s world, that’s where I long to dwell. But this world doesn’t make sense in scholarly prose. It’s real. It’s life. It’s messy.

Hi Jim. Another good spoonful ! It is important to balance this scripture you gave. We often get fellow Christians who put greater reliance in what they perceive God is telling them than God’s word in the bible. I put that to a fellow intelligent and articulate Christian in our fellowship group. This fellow is very strong on “words from God”. So what is the listener to do, I said, if there is a conflict between what a Christian says is truth from “a word from God” and God’s written word the bible, which do we choose as ultimate truth - no argument - God’s word. You see when I am amongst, particularly Pentecostal Christians, they are fond of telling me what God is telling them about this and that and in particular matters in my own life (what I should do). Now these types usually have a problem and its this, they fall into the trap of NOT TESTING TO SEE IF IT (a word) IS FROM GOD OR NOT FIRST - they speak as though they are God and this is a serious sin. They sometimes speak as though they are the only Christian God is working with and talks to. They assume to themselves which only belongs to God. They are in grave danger! Would you not agree that before we assume what is “all truth” via the Spirit we should test it first? Remember something, we are still in the flesh and that flesh is not a perfect filter for that which is knowledge embedded in us from God OR our own fleshly thoughts and imaginations. I have seen fellow Christians go off in all sorts of weird and peculiar tangents because they seem to think that every first impulsive thought that comes into their minds is from God and spout it as such and accordingly make themselves god - a great sin. What thinks ye brother? Peter

I had received this response on 10/19/2010 and replied to it shortly thereafter. I planned to send my reply out as both a Spoonful and a Shoveletter at that time, but like usual, the project got waylaid.
