The Word
Submitted by theshovelIn the beginning was the word John 1:1
Before your mind wanders off into its usual predefined thought patterns, take a few steps back and ponder with me: What is a WORD?
I'm not inquiring after a dictionary definition, but for a gut-level consideration. Why? Because we mostly equate "word" with "verbiage" and therefore surmise that phonetic sounds or printed visuals define what it is. But sensory forms are merely the manner in which we send or receive communication. A word is the expression of a reality.
In the beginning was the word
What is it to declare: "I give my word" or "My word is my bond"? Truth be told, we are vastly more familiar with the disappointment that results from such claims. We may become cynics, but anticipation still lingers, and that's why we get taken so easily time and again. Maybe we just want it to be true, but maybe there's an inherent power in the form of a word that demands it's SUPPOSED to be true.
In the beginning was the word
Before there were human words there was THE word. The word that was in the beginning is not the sights your eyes behold or the sounds your ears detect. Not only had eyes and ears not yet to come into existence, neither had the environment which makes sight and sound possible. God may be recorded as saying, "Let there be light!" etc, etc, but you might as well lay aside the ridiculous argument that attempts to figure out which human language he spoke it in.
In the beginning was the word
Human words aid human communication. So when God spoke from one man to another it was done through the language of those men. But God's communication is only INTERPRETED through human language. No, I'm not attempting to debunk that which has been written, but only to establish the limits of human language as being able to explain God.
God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us IN His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. And He is the radiance of His glory and the EXACT REPRESENTATION of His nature Hebrews 1:1-3
In the beginning was the word
This word is the very expression of God, and it existed before a human word could interpret it. The good news is that God did not leave us blindly groping for the right words - or the right interpretations of the right words - but instead He sent the WORD that perfectly explains Him. The words may testify of the Word but they do not explain Him. Only the Word of God, the same one that was in the beginning, put into your heart causes that miracle.

Re: The Word
Wonderful finally someone takes the time to find our what the word is! The word was, and is to come! There is power in the word. No other power is above, all power is put beneath him - the word. And the word became flesh and dwelt among us! Thank you Lord that you dwell among us, and in us. The power is not in our words, but in the word of God! And that word, is Christ, no other name on earth or below has been given power. We can fully trust and depend on the word, that it was given, and has the power to fulfill what it was sent to do. Our beleif in the one who was sent is not in vain, but will never return void! Hallelujah! Our Lord Reigns! :)

Love, Dan
This word "the WORD" is so refreshing. Thanks for the time you put in to keeping us straggling Gracers grounded. I always need the reminders you send and the timing is always perfect. I would like to ask you a question which was posed to us today by the Pastor of a Church we're attending (for kid's sake only). Anyway, is this the place to pose the question or is their a different email address for subjects off of the current shovel letter? Let me know. Thanks again, keep digging..
Debbie
Hello Debbie!
Thanks for the encouragement. :) I am thrilled to be able to share the grace of Christ to any and all, and I am excited that it means something to you.
As far as questions go, you can really ask them anywhere you want. I did receive your other email and I will respond before the day is over.
Thanks, Jim
Dear Jim,
Good "Word".......He is! Thanks for the good words about The Word! I believe with all my heart that in Genesis where God said, "let there be light" that this was a manifestation of Himself in this dark, void space. And, He spoke it. Then, all things were created. They were created in and through and for Him, the Light! Without Light and Sound we see and hear nothing! And, there must be something for the light and sound to touch and bounce off of. Something to ponder.
Blessings and Merry Christmas to you and your family. In Him, Jenny
