Hell, Hades, or Gehenna (Damned forever to the pit of fire?)
Is there a real hell? Does the Bible teach that God created a burning pit of fire and brimstone so He could judge and torment damned sinners forever and ever? What about what Jesus said in the Sermon on the Mount? Didn’t he teach the existence of afterlife suffering and damnation? Is God really the monster who apparently delights in making people suffer eternally in a burning pit of sulfur in the underworld as many religions claim?
I challenge you to reconsider the so-called Biblical teachings known as hell, hades, Sheol, or Gehenna. Discover for yourself how our modern-day Christian doctrine of eternal judgment has been built upon greed, religion, assumption, manipulation, and misunderstanding, as well as upon the myths of Greek, Roman and Norse gods of the underworld.
Now, I do not deny the many Biblical references to hell, hades, Sheol, or Gehenna, and I know that Jesus spoke about it on more than one occasion. However, we cannot stand upon the accumulated wisdom of religious teachings just because many, if not most, Christians might have believed in the accepted doctrines of everlasting damnation for generations upon generations.
