Brand New Ground
Submitted by theshovelI wrote Brand New Ground back when I was only 26. It was one of the songs that grew out of my grace-awakening years. These words came to me after much intense scrutiny from those who warned me about going off the deep end! I hope you enjoy it.
I am worthy through God’s son, by his word and what he’s done
By his grace he changed a wretch into a king
I am worthy through his name, it shall ever be the same
I will lift my voice to Jesus Christ and sing
Before Jesus gave me new life, the best that I could do
was building crumbling mansions upon the sinking sand
Darkness marked the future, without God in the world,
but Jesus, he delivered me when I believed in him
Now I’m standing, I am standing
Standing on my firm foundation since Christ set me free
I am standing, I am standing
Standing fast in liberty on my brand new ground
Growing up in Jesus takes a long, long time;
the riches that I’ve tried to gain, I’ve learned that they’ve been mine
Struggling hard to change myself has proved to be in vain;
living on the old dead ground only brings me shame
Why should I keep trying to build those crumbling mansions now?
For I have died with Christ, the Lord, and my life is hid with him
Now I’m standing, I am standing
Standing on my firm foundation since Christ set me free
I am standing, I am standing
Standing fast in liberty on my brand new ground

In this one I felt the sense of awesome wonder that was going on within a heart that was awakening to these truths of .....brand new ground. And the realization that "the riches that I've tried to gain, I've learned have already been mine", is priceless.
"I will lift my voice to Jesus Christ and sing". Indeed, you did!! ......Julie
