35 Years

Submitted by theshovel
Today, Sherri and I celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary. That’s almost a record in today’s society. At least, that’s what many people tell me. Hey, we even got married on a Friday the 13th! I can’t attribute our stability to marriage counselors or marriage programs, not even Biblical ones. If I learned anything, it would be that it’s futile to try to have a relationship when you already have one. Live in the knowledge of the reality of union found in Christ.

Every single day I am confronted by a facade of wisdom that desires to undermine the simplicity of life and truth. Yeah I know, many consider truth either as a relativistic and bogus concept or as a collected database of proven facts. However, it is neither. I won’t try to tell you that I am never swayed by this constant assault. After all, there is a sense of comfort and confidence in having something more substantial to hold onto or of giving into an agreed-upon belief that no one can know anything for sure.

Getting Even

Submitted by theshovel
I can’t help but notice folks spending great time and energy in the futile attempt to get even. Believe me, I fully understand this from my own personal history. After all, it’s all part of what makes this world operate, and the constant flow of news would mostly shrivel up without it. I have come to so value the freedom found in having being released from this bondage in Christ. I have no need to try to get even with others. Even though I understand the old mindset, I have been given a new understanding that simply ruins the logic of revenge. Thank God!! :)

Brain-dead

Submitted by theshovel
The down-side of getting up so early is the eventual period of brain-deadness. Do you know what I mean? I often can’t wait to get home to jot down some excellent piece of good news to pass on, but I end up staring blankly into the computer screen waiting for who knows what. Sometimes it’s worse than other times. This is one of those periods of time. All I can tell you at this moment is that I am glad Christ never fails. :) Jim

Early Morning Living

Submitted by theshovel
I love mornings. And that’s a good thing, as I wake up at 2:45 AM not because I’m “super-spiritual” but because I start work at 4. Even on my weekends off I get up early … though not so early, especially when my wife keeps me up late, like maybe 10 or 11! LOL. I enjoy the time in the quiet before anyone else stirs. Well, I had numerous things I was going to write about, such as some of the thoughts and routines I go through at this time of the morning, but it’s already time to leave for work.

Sunday morning walk

Submitted by theshovel
Good morning! I just got back from a walk with my eldest daughter along A1A in South Palm Beach. Normally we take a 4 mile walk up the beach in our bare feet, but Christy wanted to do a more brisk pace this morning on a hard surface…with shoes. There is an added advantage of wearing shoes, as sometimes the sand is so coarse that the skin on our toes gets worn through. Ouch! The weather has gotten pretty miserable. The air is thick and warm even at 6 a.m. and there is not the slightest breeze.

Hearing Christ?

Submitted by theshovel

Do you suppose, though, that we learned Christ according to the natural systems? We speak in Christ. The world can only try to comprehend by forcing them into the understanding it is confined to. Despite all our attempts to revisit and explain what has actually happened to us we heard HIM through the same words that others can only systematize. Never let anyone's fleshly explanations cause you to question the purity in which Christ came to you. :)

At least look like you're busy!

Submitted by theshovel

Many (or should I say most) companies love initiating new programs and stats and reports in order to track what's being done. Working in retail for the last 15 years I've seen a lot of this. The simple fact is that we want the appearance of performance. While you can learn much from reports and statistics, these things are easily spun to suit one's agenda. We want to talk about doing something, without really doing the thing we're claiming to do. And then we will use the claim to compare our own performance with that of another. Sound familiar?

Random Shovelquote: No-man's Land (view all shovelquotes)

...to believe in Christ is not equal to an acceptance of the religion of Christianity, nor is it an avoidance of fact. I know, I stand on what appears to be no-man's land. Thank God for that! :) source
