Don’t we know that those who best understood Paul’s letters were the people he originally addressed them to? Yes, I’m referring to people who, compared to the great theologians, might be considered spiritual morons. Most of the so-called difficult scripture passages I’ve encountered over the years have been best understood through a simple adjustment of perspective, one that would have been considered most obvious by those who didn’t have to pull out lexicons and concordances.
